Healthy aging & regenerative science research & care · Scottsdale & Glendale, AZ
Healthy aging research asks a practical question: can we preserve the abilities that help us stay active, engaged, and independent?
RX-O2 offers a physician-led conversation about the evidence, your diagnosis, and the role of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in your broader care plan. Our Scottsdale and Glendale teams serve patients across the Phoenix area.
Recent studies report encouraging cognitive and physiological changes in selected older adults. Research on telomeres and circulating progenitor cells adds biological insight, while long-term clinical benefits remain under study. Explore the evidence below.
Physician-led care in Scottsdale and Glendale, serving the Phoenix area.

The starting point
Research includes cognitive testing, exercise-related measures, immune-cell markers, and circulating progenitor cells. These outcomes answer different questions and should not be combined into a claim that treatment reverses aging.
An individualized conversation should focus on your health history and specific goals. Established medical care, physical activity suited to your circumstances, sleep, and management of vascular risks remain part of healthy aging.
The clinical context matters. A change in a blood-cell marker is not evidence of longer life, whole-body rejuvenation, or regeneration of a particular organ.
Connect the research to your goals
Discuss attention, processing speed, and everyday tasks that matter to you.
Identify practical goals for activity and independence alongside your usual care.
Separate measured clinical changes from laboratory markers and early mechanistic findings.
Your goals help shape the conversation and provide a useful way to follow progress if treatment is prescribed.

Literature checked
October 20, 2026
2026 · Systematic review
Publication indexed in PubMed. 2026.
Read the publicationA review of seven studies involving 502 adults reported encouraging findings in selected older populations. Higher-quality studies in healthy older adults described improvements in cognitive domains and some aerobic or pulmonary measures.
How to interpret it: Populations and methods varied, and follow-up was generally short. Results remain preliminary and do not establish prevention of dementia or longer life.
2020 · Prospective study
Hachmo Y, et al. Aging. 11/18/2020.
Read the publicationA 2020 study of 35 healthy adults aged 64 and older reported increases in telomere length in selected blood immune-cell populations and reductions in some senescent T-cell measures after an HBOT course.
How to interpret it: The study lacked an untreated control group. These cellular findings do not show that a person’s biological age was reversed or that lifespan increased.
2006 · Human and animal mechanistic research
Thom SR, et al. American journal of physiology. Heart and circulatory physiology. 2006 Apr.
Read the publicationHuman and animal experiments reported increased circulating CD34-positive cells after hyperbaric oxygen exposure. The work helped develop hypotheses about oxygen-related repair signaling.
How to interpret it: A higher circulating cell count does not demonstrate successful tissue regeneration. Mechanistic findings are not equivalent to a stem-cell treatment or a proven clinical outcome.
The functional findings give healthy aging research a promising direction, and the cellular work helps explain what scientists are investigating. Larger studies with longer follow-up are essential. Meet with RX-O2 to discuss realistic goals and the evidence most relevant to your health.
Plan with your care team
Bring your medical history, current medicines, relevant cognitive or functional assessments, and your priorities for healthy aging.
Review the evidence with your treating specialist and hyperbaric clinician. Identify specific outcomes to follow, the alternatives, and the reasons HBOT may or may not be appropriate.
If treatment is prescribed, discuss the schedule, travel, costs, safety screening, and how progress will be reviewed. A published study schedule does not determine an individual prescription.
Your consultation is an opportunity to ask about expected benefits, treatment experience, scheduling, costs, and follow-up. We review suitability with you and coordinate with your treating clinicians when appropriate.
The RX-O2 difference
Medical Director Marvin A. Borsand, DO, FACOS, FACCS, HCC, leads clinical oversight. A licensed medical provider reviews suitability and prescribes treatment when appropriate.
Our clinics use FDA-cleared hard-shell chambers. You breathe 100% medical oxygen through a mask or hood while the chamber is pressurized with air.
NHSA-certified hyperbaric technicians explain the visit and monitor treatment. Tell us about ear pressure, positioning, mobility, or confinement concerns before you arrive.
Before your visit
Studies have reported changes in selected functions and cellular markers. They do not establish whole-body age reversal or longer life.
No. This page describes research on cells already circulating in the body. HBOT is not a stem-cell injection or transplantation procedure.
Bring your health history and goals for cognition, activity, or daily function. The team can explain the research, treatment experience, and whether an assessment is appropriate.
RX-O2 has clinics in Scottsdale and Glendale. Bring your records or ask your provider to send a referral so that the team can review your circumstances and explain whether an outpatient consultation is appropriate.
