Diagnosis comes first. Symptoms alone do not establish an ongoing Lyme infection. Your treating clinician should evaluate possible causes and guide appropriate care. HBOT is not a diagnostic test for Lyme disease.1
The science, in perspective
There is a reason patients ask about oxygen under pressure. Understanding its effects on the body is different from knowing whether it will improve Lyme-related symptoms.
01 / How HBOT works
Breathing oxygen under increased pressure raises the amount of oxygen dissolved in blood plasma. Researchers also study its effects on inflammatory signaling and tissue repair. These mechanisms do not, on their own, prove effectiveness for Lyme disease.2
02 / Lyme-specific evidence
A 2014 case report described improvement in one patient receiving HBOT for persistent Lyme-related illness. A single case cannot show how reliably a treatment works or separate its effects from other factors. Larger controlled studies are needed.3
03 / Your decision
HBOT is not an established cure for Lyme disease or post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome. Any consideration of this off-label use should include the uncertainty of benefit, treatment risks, time commitment, cost, and coordination with your existing care.
What “FDA-cleared” means here: RX-O2 uses FDA-cleared hyperbaric chambers. Device clearance does not mean HBOT has been cleared or proven effective for Lyme disease.

You breathe oxygen through a dedicated mask or hood while the chamber is pressurized with air. This describes the oxygen you breathe, rather than the atmosphere filling the chamber.
Our technicians are certified through the National Hyperbaric Safety Association and trained in chamber operations, patient monitoring, and emergency procedures.

HBOT has not been established as a cure for Lyme disease or as a reliable way to eliminate Borrelia infection in people. Lyme-specific clinical evidence is limited. It should not replace antibiotics or other care recommended by your treating clinician.
Lyme disease is an off-label use of HBOT. RX-O2 uses FDA-cleared chambers, but that device clearance does not establish approval or effectiveness for treating Lyme disease.
People use “chronic Lyme” to describe different experiences. Persistent fatigue, pain, or cognitive symptoms after treatment warrant medical evaluation. Your clinician should assess your diagnosis and other possible causes before considering additional treatment. HBOT is not an established treatment for post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome.
There is no universally established HBOT protocol or session count for Lyme disease. If a licensed provider recommends an individualized trial, discuss its goals, schedule, cost, and when to reassess before committing to a package.
Possible effects include ear or sinus barotrauma, temporary vision changes, and confinement anxiety. Oxygen toxicity and pressure-related lung injury are less common but serious risks. Your provider screens for contraindications, including an untreated pneumothorax. RX-O2 prohibits personal electronics and battery-powered devices inside the chamber and monitors patients throughout treatment.4, 5
